transmission oil question

Is JD Hygard oil equivalent to hytran oil. (be nice here). I want to change the oil in my 300U and the nearest dealer for Hytran is 40 minutes each way, the JD oil is just around the corner. If I put that stuff in my 300U will it break out in a rash and not talk to me!My wife is like that when I spend money on my old tractors.LOL

I use generic Hytran, I think is compatible with JD oil and IH hytran. Your 50+ year old tractor doesn't care. A newer one might. But, I have read on this forum that the JD and CaseIH oils are pretty much the same.

i just got 20 gallons of hydraulic fluid from Tractor Supply for my 806. i wasn't willing to spend the extra money for the brand name fluid so i went with one that was recommended as a replacement for HyTran.

TSC sells two:

I bought the Traveller brand. a little extra money, but the cheaper stuff is only rated to 0°F where as the Traveller premium was rated down to -44°F. might not be a consideration where you live, but for me it most definitely is.

Review wise, both had some good and some bad reviews, so i had to take them with a grain of salt.

For with it's worth, anyway.

TSC sells two. Traveller brand and Super S (or something like that)
