WOW!
I’ve had this 656 for three years and it’s always been an absolute bear to start. I had heard the stories of the D282 being hard to start and figured it was just the nature of the beast.
About a month or so ago I pulled all the injectors, cleaned them and replaced one that was an old style. On Pete’s advice I pulled all the precups (not an easy task) since I noticed they were all facing random directions (none of them correct). I replaced them with all new gaskets and made sure that up was pointed up this time.
What a difference in starting. It now takes less than a minute of glowplugs and then it starts immediately. Compare that to 3 or 4 minutes of glowplugs and numerous attempts cranking it till it eventually would start to fire and maybe start if the battery held up long enough.
It’s actually a joy to start now. I can’t help but smile every time I do it! Can’t wait till winter comes again so I can see how it does then. Before it was 4-6 hours of block heater time before even attempting to start it.
Thanks to Pete and everyone for the advice!
