just a update guys, sat night we got to run the motor for about 20 mins and it sounds good. i have 50 psi oil pressure, we replaced the oil light with a gage. got to try lift arms and pto all work fine. new problem is the tractor had sat for close to 12 years from what i can find out and the fuel tank rusted bad on the bottom and both side as it sits between the fenders. i had tryed to weld and use jb weld also but missed some do you guys know of a replacment or aftermarket? or someplace that may have some good ones. if you do drop me a line. also i case any of you run in to this problem on the CVA type fuel filters, i had both dripping after replacing the o-rings around the glass bowls and end up cracking one trying to get the leak stoped. my parts guys got me a change over kit from wix filters to use spin on filters and it works great. after we had the motor warmed up and redid the toqure specs on the head and set the clearence on the rocker arms. thanks for any help will try and post some pics after my daughters wedding in 6 weeks.

My 884 had the same problem (rusted through fuel tank ends.) I took the tank off and totally sandblasted the ends down to clean bare metal. Then, I completely coated the end surfaces with fiberglass and fiberglass resin, thoroughly flushed out the tank and re-installed it with a neoprene membrane between the tank and fenders. It's been holding for about ten years now.

i am going to try and fix mine, caseih wants 1262.00 for a new tank, i called 2 salvage yard and they do not have any good tanks. will let you guys know how it turns out. thanks

I am making an educated guess, but I know the early C series (C80 etc) used the metal fuel tank like the 74-4200 series, and they switched to a plastic one for the later C series.

Might be a wrecked C series around.

As far as the tank, it can be welded up, our 495 was done years ago, rusted between fender and tank...nice find for a tractor that was bought new and always shedded...
