CUB Oil pressure-High to low

My 1952 CUB that is now running after 5-8 years of sitting, shows "good" oil pressure upon startup on the original gauge, but as the tractor warms up, it drops into the "RED" zone....will fluctuate on rpm's...Is this due to a warn out engine, bad main bearing or oil pressure spring/valve ?

New oil, non detergent & filter were just put in. Oil pan & screen were also removed and cleaned.

Probably a combination of everything (worn out engine). Does it blow blue smoke?Run a compression check. Pull the pan and chech the bearings. Replace them if you want or if they look 'compromised'.The oil pump could also be worn.Take it apart and inspect.Others will chime in with more ideas/advise

Cubs typically show higher oil pressure when cold then lower when warm. Try a known good gauge before condemning the engine. An old one is not always accurate and Cubs don't need super high oil pressure.

What weight oil? My Cub showed unacceptably low pressure when hot on straight 30 in the summer but on 15W-40 it still shows good pressure after hours of mowing in 90-degree-plus weather.

The use of 15-40 oil will be a first priority. Non detergent oils were phased out about the time the tractor was born. Modern oil will provide much more engine protection. The Cub has an oil pump built into the block, so repair is not really an option, except changing the gears, or making the cover flat. They will live for a long time with modest pressure. Jim
