IH 606 Engine Teardown Pics

Hey guys! Had a little time today so started tearing my sisters tractor down. You guys were right about the blown head gasket between cylinders 4 and 5 (0 compression on those two cylinders). Found some old damage on one piston...looks like it dropped a valve at some point. Head looked good though. Didn't have my measurement tools to check anything, but pistons seem to have a lot of play! Have a video if I can figure out how to post it...if not I can email it to anyone that wants to see. Based on the amount of play, I'm guessing a full rebuild is in order which is what I told her to plan for anyway.

just moving the pistons sideways at the top means nothing. you need to measure the wear in the cyl's. if you can catch your finger nail on the top ridge of sleeve then that is more accurate than moving piston.if your finger nail don't catch you are ok. does this engine use oil... as it don't appear like. the top of piston is smaller than the skirt where you are to do the measuring.
the valves don't look too bad either , but they need to be removed so can see the seats on them and check guides. from what I can see is that engine don't look too bad , so you may only need a gasket, {be good to your sister}. those spark plugs tell a story you know.and it is not all carboned up either. just file those high spots off of # 3 piston is something that can be done also. you need to check the head and block for warpage also. good luck.

I know being able to move the pistons does not necessarily mean anything...just "feels" like there is too much clearance there. I'll be measuring everything though before deciding what to do. Engine had a knock too so still need to pull the pan. The plugs look good...engine did not use oil; just the knock and 0 compression on those two cylinders.
