56 400 fuel

Hello again. I started up the tractor and ran it a bit a couple weeks ago. Was working on moving stuff around and it stopped. No worries there as I knew I was short on gas. I left it there for about a week or so as it was kinda cold anyway. Well, I got some gas and started her up without a hitch. Did some scraping as I am rebuilding my driveway. I dont like the way it is. So here is my problem besides forgetting to wear a hat in the sun for 2 hours or so, My fuel line from the bowl to the ??manifold was fine. The radiator side of the manifold leaked after I shut her off for a while. I noticed it when I went back out to look at her. The radiator side has 2 flat head screws that bolt to the manifold and feed the front cylinder. Is the leak common? Should I try to change the gasket? I turned the fuel flow off at the bowl with the petcock. I just opened it up and noticed no leak but I expect it will do so after I start working it and stop for the day. I remember someone else here having that issue but forget what the result was. Thanks.

Ok...I looked at my book on the 400. It is leaking fuel out of the carb on the engine side of it. That would be the same side as the choke. Fuel is leaking a drop at a time off the choke control bracket. Which means it is leaking down to the lowest point on that bracket and then dropping onto the engine. Possibly a carb clean and new gaskets. I wonder if i can use the make a gasket material I bought years ago to make a gasket for it. If it would work, that is. Advice is appreciated.

I would make sure it is not leaking out of the gas line. You could have a cracked line or a bad feral fitting, or the gasket between the carb and the brass fitting is gone or bad. If you could take a picture of it and post it would help a lot.

I will post pics in a while. Off to help a friend with his lawnmower.

Dang thing quit leaking. I wiped the dirt off of the outside of the carb and no more leak. Either the gas expanded the gasket back out or when I tried wiping the carb down to get a better look at it, the dirt sealed up the leak. I did turn off the fuel at the petcock and it is back on again. I ran her for about 5 hours or so flattening my driveway and I suppose we could call it playing. Next plan is to organize my toys...er uh tools/implements where they can be accessed easily on a portion of my property that I dont use much due to neighbor noisy dogs.
