A guy down the road is wanting to sell a IH 184 with a belly mower. I don't think he has used it much but what can you folks tell me about them. Are they any good or are they a money pit. Thanks in advance.

We have one, my dad likes to mow with it. They are a little under powered and 3rd gear is just a road gear only. You have 1st and 2nd(usually 2nd) for mowing. You cannot use them like a rotary mower(Bush Hog), just for finish mowing (grass not over 6 or 8" tall mostly. Ours has a Woods brand deck. Same engine and transaxle as Farmall Cub. We gave $1,800 for ours
at a school surplus sale about 15 years ago. They are still in the $1,500-$2,500 range around here in NW NC.
