International 1466

Hey guys. I just purchased an international 1466 to restore. I have always wanted one on the
larger IH tractors and this one runs great but is having some trouble pulling itself. I have already
ordered all the manuals but wanted to ask some of the experts. From what i can see the clutch
looks to be in great condition. What is happening is when it starts to pull even a small hill and
sometimes even on level ground it will stop pulling. The clutch is not slipping or jerking. If you rev
up the engine it will pull a little better. I have already overfilled the hydraulic oil like a lot of the
forums said to try. It quits pulling mostly in the higher gears even on the low side but it will still
hold back going down a hill as well. Wasnt sure if maybe the ta was going out or if the mcv valve
and pump need rebuilt or replaced. I have some guages coming to check the pressures with also.
The ta seems to work when it is on level ground. I can feel it going in and out but i know if it is
weak it may be some of my problem too. Thanks for any help. Just trying to get an idea of the
main problem before i tear it down and start searching for worn parts. Everything else seems to
be in good shape. Thanks again. I appreciate any help

I forgot to mention that even when the tractor quits pulling the clutch, power steering, and brakes all still work. Thanks.

That's what I was thinking. A buddy had a 1066 that he was still pulling light tillage tools with, and he told me it would set for a couple seconds after letting the clutch out in the high range, then take off. Put it in low gear and took off, held the brakes down, it stopped moving, and after about 10 sec of that, I saw a bit of smoke from the bellhousing. I split it, clutch was toast. Pressure plate wouldn't hold tension anymore. He said he had run it that way for a couple years, just was getting too bad for him. Ruined the flywheel too; thats a pricey new item. No nearby salvage yards had a good one.
