46 H Hydraulic problems

I have a 46 H with a 300 live hyd pump that gets oil from the original belly pump which has been converted to a reservoir by taking the pump out and installing a flat plate and a coupling to allow oil to be sucked up to the pump. The problem that I have is frustrating amount of air bubbles in the oil which raises the oil level in the reservoir and blows out the breather. I've disconnected the pressure line and put air on it looking for leaks in the suction line but no luck. I've looked very hard for leaks and found none. Could I have a vibration bubble? Could the hyd pump be bad and cavitating causing air bubbles?
Where could I send the pump to be rebuilt? Please help. Al71. I can'teven drive the tractor.

does the suction line to the pump hook up to the belly pump drain plug, or into the side of the old belly pump?

The suction line goes into the old belly pump by way of a 1" pipe coupling close to the bottom but not in the drain hole. I removed the belly pump because it froze and broke. I then made a 1/4 " cover plate with a 1" coupling near the bottom. Please help. I don't know what to do. Al71

Unfortunately it's the nature of the beast when you "update" to live hyd. You can run less oil in the reservoir and extend the breather upwards about 12" depends where your return flow is plumbed in. Tall breather should be the old fill tube. Return should go into the plate about 2/3 way up and do not fill with oil above the return.

Best way to eliminate your problem is to make the rear end housing the reservoir. Change the gear oil to hyd oil, suction from the drain plug with an in line filter and return into the belt pulley cover.

Someone had done that on an M I bought. I use the remotes so I needed more fluid. And it was gathering air and lacked capacity. Just a hot mess, really.

I bought a five gallon hydro reservoir at Orscheln and mounted it on the left frame rail. Then I used a hydraulic hose to connect it it the belly pump reservoir. Only one hose. Gravity/suction feeds it and when all of it is full it pushed fluid into that reservoir. The tanks aren't cheap $95 or so plus a few cheap parts. I can use the two remotes without worry of capacity now. I have thought about bypassing that belly pump reservoir all together, but it holds a gallon and a half, I would have to drain it all, and I've got other projects that need doing.

Where is the return oil line plumbed in the reservoir? Does it return below the oil level or above? Is the hydraulics used for double acting cylinders or used single acting? With the pump removed from the reservoir part you should be able to use about 2 gallons of oil without blowout in most setups.
If you have the return oil line plumbed to the fill on the reservoir I'm going to guess that's at least part of the problem. That or using the system with single acting cylinders that lowers the oil level to much when extended or raises it to much when retracted.
