Hello, 1975 IH 250A backhoe with 239 4 cylinder engine. Earlier today I noticed my fan belt crank pulley has a little chunk missing where the belt rides. Is this just a pulley or is the balancer and pulley all one assembly? Should I try a Case IH dealer for this or where would you gentlemen suggest? Thanks, Dave
 
Hi Dave,
I believe it is just a pulley. The harmonic balancer is behind the front plate and accessed via crankcase oil pan.

There are three different part numbers for the pulley depending on serial number and tractor model.

If it is only a small piece broken out, I would try filing the broken edges smooth so they don't cut the fan belt.

that pulley comes off the crankshaft not with a puller. take out retaining bolt and tap pulley towards the engine there are 3 locking rings that will release where retaining bolt is on crank
 
OK I got out a wedge ring and I see it has a groove for a snap ring that wasn't there... The pulley is still stuck on the crank. I will take another look and still is going to take a puller I think. Do you know where on the engine the serial number would be? Thanks
 
Hi, the engine serial number should be stamped on a pad on the right side of the engine to the rear of the oil filter base.
In my I&T Shop Service manual, to remove crankshaft pulley, remove the three cap screws and flat washer, tap pulley with plastic hammer to loosen clamping ring, then slide clamping ring and pulley off end of crankshaft.
Installation of crankshaft pulley, slide pulley on crankshaft and align with timing pin. Install clamping ring, flat washer and three cap screws.
