I am new to antique tractors but am looking at getting into it. I am looking at buying a farmall 240. It runs fine but the paint is pretty bad on it He wants $2000 for it. I am planning on repainting it and giving it an overhaul. Don't know much about restoring a tractor so any advice and info would be great. Thanks.

Hi, so are you sure it needs a overhaul,First give it a compression test, make sure the throttle is wide open, and engine should be warm. If it need overhauling, you might as well plan on doing the clutch too,and the learning process continues,LOL. I cant help you with painting! How are the tires?

It runs perfectly fine and the clutch is tight. The tires are worn but no apparent rot. The tractor was stored inside and in good condition. I guess overhaul wasn't what I meant, more like a once-over to check everything and replace anything that needs to. It has a transmission PTO has anyone had any trouble with them?

It sounds like to me is all you have to do is check the air cleaner, check and clean the brakes, and drain and refill the final drive with new 80-90,or what ever the book recomends. When i check a air cleaner, i take the oil cup off the bottom, and the air bonnet, off the top ,and look down thru the center pipe and push that dirt out the bottom if there is any there clogging the main air supply.
