Farmall M - Tractor suddenly shut down

I have been using a Farmall M with a new battery. Was on it today doing various things for almost 2 hours. While mowing, it suddenly shut down - almost as if I pushed in the kill switch. Plenty of fuel in tank and fuel bowl is full. I tried starting it several times and it cranks just fine, but absolutely doesn't fire. Suggestions? Thanks for advice.

Yes, there was a conversion done before I bought this. Replace the resistor? Are coils and resistors the same thing on Ms?

First thing you should do is check for spark. You need a good blue/white spark at the coil wire from the center of the cap and also at the plugs. Spark needs to jump a 1/4 inch gap or more. No spark or weak spark try a hot wire from the ignition side of the battery to the ignition side of the battery. Leave the switch off. If you gert a spark when you hot wire it see if it will start hot wired. If it starts then you have a problem from the coil back to the battery if still will not start and no spark your problem is in the distributor and your point maybe bad or some such thing

Be sure the coil wire is in the cap and coil all the way. I had mine come out one time and it acted just like this.

Having a full tank and a full fuel bowl doesn't mean you have flow. You said it stopped suddenly, did it sputter or misfire when it stalled out? Sudden, without sputter would sound like electrical, sputtering and stalling could be fuel,as others have said, check for spark,if you have spark check fuel flow by opening carb drain and let it run out into a container, the flow has to be constant and on going.

The conversion required either a 12 volt coil or leave the 6 volt coil and add a resistor. If you have a volt meter its easy to pull the switch and see if you have 6-8 volts at the distributor. If you have only 2 or 3 volts or less then its a bad resistor. You want to make sure all wiring is still connected and you have 12 v across the switch also.
