Bought a w-6 pulled head off to change gasket measured it it says it's 4.125(41/8) anyway trying to figure out what block and head this is .figuring it's an m block someone swapped out along the way

Right side of motor, toward the back you will find 248;264;or 281 cast there.A w6 is raelly an M,should have a 248.SuperW6/SuperM/400 is 264, 450 is 281. It is very likely it has oversize sleeves in from an earlier overhaul.

What is the casting number in the area where the 356980R1 is on this block. Also this has c-264 below the casting number to indicate original size bore. But depending on the block it may not have the size. Also has the casting number been ground off? Looking on toward the front you see a date code 10-6-Z. What is on the block you have? If its a M block that was bored the casting number is probably 4 numbers and 2 letters.
Most times the head number is under the center of the valve cover on top of the head. If not look for a stamped in number on the right side.

Didn't get the picture in other post.
Also to add it's not common to find a block with C-248 on it. They are some but not many. Then some replacement blocks that have c-248 on them were cast with the bore to accept sleeves with 4-1/8 piston bore like the c-264 and c-281 blocks would.
