Murphy's Law strikes again. "If a part can be installed wrong, someone will install it that way".
I've mentioned on this post an M Farmall I bought on auction a couple of weeks ago didn't run quite right till I put new spark plugs in it.
Even after that, it wouldn't idle down as slow as it should. This was a sneaky one. Some half arsed mechanic installed the throttle butterfly backwards. The butterfly shaft through the throttle bore is not centered exactly, it's about 1/16th" to 3/32nds of an inch off center. Naturally, the butterfly plate is drilled accordingly. Someone had installed the plate backwards so it would not close completely to let the engine idle down.
Took me a little snooping to figure it out. You always start out looking for something worn out, broken, burned out, etc. Your first thought isn't that someone else had installed something wrong.
