How exactly do you get the snap ring off the backside of the rear bearing?

Try takeing the pump drive coupler off the frt.of the shaft and slide the countershaft rearward. May have to remove reerse idler first.

Sometimes snap ring pliers don't work the best on those. Use some appropriate size screwdrivers or a screwdriver in conjunction with snap ring pliers. Flat end snap ring pliers with a small grove ground on each sides works lots of times. With differential still in place it's kind of a small work space.
