Axle mounted hubs for 400

I have found a set of axle mounted 9 bolt hubs to fit M thru 560. The guy wants $400 for them and another $400 for a set of 14.9x38 tires in good usable condition on 9 bolt pressed rim. I have never seen the hubs before. Are they worth the $400? I know the tires in my area are worth that easily. I want to get axle mount duals for my 400D instead of clamp ons. I have a set of old style dual rims with separate rings. I however do not have the clamps. I priced them and even if I only did 4 clamps per tire it would still be about $500 to complete the clamp on duals. So opinions are welcomed and appreciated. Thanks All

Go to an Ag tire store. Price a new set of hubs. Since you've never seen a set, they are probably worth the $400 if you really want/need them. That is probably half price of new.I made a full set of 12(6 per wheel) 'hooks' for my clamp on duals. Used a stick of 3/4 all thread. Cut the hook part from 1/2 flat iron.Had less than $100 in them, but 2-3 hrs time.

I posted on here looking for a set of those hubs last fall. Had about 4 responses and the guy closest to me(still 3 hours away) had a set he wanted around $200 for. The others were at least 6-8 hours away, and priced up to $350 a set. So I'd say if the ones you found are reasonably close that's not too bad of a price.

But if you see another set available, I'd be interested. My own fault I didn't get the ones I'd found- I didn't have time or make time to go pick up the 3 hours away set last fall, and when I called this spring the tractor they were on had been sold along with the hubs. So, I'm still looking.

Farmall,Even if 400 is too high...Since they are 'rare'(the first ones you seen)You better buy them. You may never find another set.Or look for years before you find another set.Sometimes you just have to pay the price to get that"one of a kind" item.Or 'suffer' regret thereafter....BTDT

The inner cast wheel is marginal for clamp on duals. Back in the day Uncle cracked two wheels on 560 before he went and got axle duals. Highly recommend hub type for a 400. Run the outer softer than the inside. It may not pull as much but easier on tractor. IMHO

Ive run clamp-ons for 40 years. Everything from a SuperM to 1256(still got the SM).Never had a problem. However,I agree hub type is stronger. But I had to use what I had/could afford....

400 sounds high to me. Those hubs show up occasionally here on consignment sales so not real rare. Sale last week had a set with 15.5-38 on pressed steel rims. Didn't stay to see what they brought cause no use for them, but I would be surprised if the whole setup brought over 200. There were tractor pullers there so that may have changed things. I picked up a set for an H a few years ago for 40 dollars.

I seem to have a recollection that the hubs and rims from a 44 Massey Harris Tractor would work to dual an M Farmall.
The keyway on the Massey hubs was a slight bit smaller than the slot in the Farmall axle.
Anyway, this is my recollection from when I was a kid so view with some skepticism.......

I am buying the axle mounted hubs and tires. I think that the tires offset the hub price. Besides it is the time of year that I could really use them for plowing disking and planting. I will see if I can figure out how to post pics on here off my phone as I progress through the spring into planting season. Thanks for all the help!!!
