why would a tractor be missing manifold

Found a tractor that would suit my needs, if it runs. The tricky part is that it is being sold in "unknown condition". I should keep looking, but curious why a tractor would be missing a manifold? Perhaps the engine or transmission are in need of repair so the previous owner began scrapping it out? You guys have any educated guesses? I appreciate your replies.

Someone started a repair of somekind and stopped ...The manifold was probably set aside and lost.Tractor most likely has serious problems-both engine and transmission. The price is WAY too high. Scrap iron price is about all it's worth. RUN!
 
yeah, that would be a desirable little tractor. But the diesel engine and the Hydro can both be money pits. You better want it real bad and be prepared to spend thousands of dollars in repairs depending on what you find wrong with it. As it sits it probably could be parted out but once you start spending money you are stuck.
 
I agree with the guys. It would be a great tractor, but a dealer is selling it in unknown condition. I would say he should be asking more like $800 for it instead of $2200. Honestly with parts missing, it's really just a parts tractor at this point.
 
That tractor is in a salvage yard in Barnesville mn. I more than likely was bought for scrap price by these guys. I agree it is a parts tractor only. Definitely not worth what they are asking!!
 
A Diesel does not need a manual to run.

The PO stated turns over, that does not mean runs, I would walk away for that price.

The serial number tag is worth that much.
