Crankshaft pulley on a Cub

I've finally got my Cub apart so I can take the block to the shop for a valve job. I've can't believe so many bolts and parts have to come off to do that. While I have it off the tractor I want to change the crank shaft seals. Can I get the front crank shaft pulley off using a puller and some heat or is that to simple of an idea.I know they don't come off or go back on easy.

You can try using a puller, but you need to use a split bearing puller and pull from that. Some of the Cub owners have made or had a metal shop to make a puller using a bottle jack or hydraulic ram. Big Dog made this or had it made. Hal

Here's a sketch for making a puller. Any good metal shop can make a puller. Some can punch those holes in 3/4 flat stock for the 3/4 all thread rod. Hal

Be warned that even with the correct tools, sometimes the pulley can't take the strain, and breaks.

I used a large gear puller, a large bearing separator, AND heat, and still broke the pulley on mine.

Heat has to be oxy-acetylene or multiple propane torches, at least 3. If all you have is a single propane torch, save it for roasting hot dogs and sweating copper fittings...
