Ih 1586 hydralgic adapters

My dad took the adapters out of the hydraulics. We can't get them back in. The little balls don't want to let the adapter in. Does the tractor need to be running to get them in?

You talking adaptors from standard IH couplers that came on the tractor to a ISO (pioneer) style male end. The body of the IH coupler has to be pulled toward you to release the locking balls. If it will not move freely, loosen it up. Make sure lever is not bent or cam inside broken. You would only need to have engine running if you have load check blocks, then you release one side at a time by operating valve lever. I doubt you have load checks.

First turn the two levers down. 2) Put your fingers between the coupler and the tractor and push the round part of coupler towards the back of tractor. The balls are released and put the adaptor in. Then put levers back up and you should be good to go.

Do what Bob says. Only confusing part...when you put your finger behind it (and I actually carry a small pein hammer and use the ball to save my finger) he says push toward the back of the tractor. Push it toward you. You will see the coupler slide toward you in the housing and the balls will visibly drop into their holes and lose all pressure. Then the fitting should go back in. I understand what he is saying, but it makes it sound like you are pushing away from you and it must be pushed toward you.
