getting ready to replace brake discs. i want to make sure that axle seal does not leak. what is a good way to check this ? i can leave overnite and put paper towel underneath it.

If it is leaking, the brakes will be soaked when you take them apart. If they are not soaked, they are not leaking, at least not much. Replacing them can be done using a deck screw or sheet metal screw into the seal body, and a slide hammer or small pry bar to remove them (don;t take the pinion carrier out!). Put new seals (might be thinner) in so they touch a different part of the shaft. Clean the shaft with 400 grit paper (roundy round, not in and out) to clean the shaft of gunk. Jim

The only oil seal is contained in the bull pinion shaft retainer. This prys out from the main rear end housing once the disc housing, actuators & discs are removed. It is also sealed with a large o-ring.
