Diesel fuel in crankcase

My 584 appears to be getting diesel fuel in the crankcase oil. I presume that it's a failed seal in the front of the injector pump (Bosch) How difficult is this to correct?

Yes, the front lip seal is leaking on the Bosch injection pump. Not very difficult to change. Everything must be CLEAN before disconnecting any of the fuel lines. Scribe aligned marks between pump and mounting plate. Scribe marks on pump drive hub to gear but DO NOT loosen cap screws on pump drive gear. Repair manuals have you aligning the crankshaft pointer and the timing marks inside the pump viewed through the inspection plate on the side of the pump. I never do this as if you are not sending the pump to a pump shop you can control if the pump drive shaft is turned, If the pump drive shaft is turned, it must be turned 2 revolutions to keep the timing alignment. Pump can be removed by just removing fuel line, mounting nuts and the large nut on the pump drive gear. Procedures for removal and re-install of the injection pump are in the repair manuals.

When the pump is off check the side play of the drive shaft both up/down and side to side. If the bushings are worn badly the play will not keep the shaft centered in the seal. Bosch has bushings to repair the housing and they will need resized after being pressed in place, pump must be apart for bushing resizing.
