H oil pump removal

Ok, let me set the stage for my question. Motor is off the tractor and on a stand. Getting ready to strip it in preparation for full overhaul. Before I wrapped up last night, I took off the oil pan and thought I would remove the oil pump as well. Only 2 bolts on the pump housing, right? Well, I removed the two bolts but it wouldn't budge. I looked at the parts diagrams and it doesn't look like there's anything holding it in other than the two bolts nearest the crankcase wall.

Am I missing something? Is there a trick to removing it? I only played with it for a few minutes but it wasn't moving at all... given my luck, I didnt try to force it either...

thanks in advance,

My shop manual calls for removing the 2 cap screws. No mention of any dowels. If you have a rawhide hammer I would
tap the pump to see if that frees the pump. Hal

It is supposed to just slide out after removing the 2 screws. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. A little gentle persuasion with a hammer might be in order.

What El Toro said.

After removing the two bolts, it should drop right down. Might have to tap on it bit.

Thanks again for the good advice. I messed with it a bit tonight but have it rotated on the stand so I'm pulling up... will try twisting and pulling down to see if that will help. I gave it a few taps and it still hasnt budged. Tough old bugger :).

thanks,

See if you can get it to twist a bit, so that the mounting holes are no longer lined up. Once you can get it wiggling it should slide right out. I have torn down about 8 or 9 of them
and many were a bit stiff but they all came out fine in the end.

Thanks again for all of the good advice. I was only able to get it to budge after using a sturdy rubber mallet to get it to twist... it only started to move freely after making it 90 degrees. whew.
