Farmall 340 Lights

I took the sheet metal off my tractor to install a gas gauge and gas sensor. While I have the sheet metal off I thought I would install lights on it. A previous owner took them off.

I found some wiring still connected. Looks like the previous owner just cut the wires to the lights when he took off the lights. I do have a wiring diagram from the parts manual, but I am not sure where everything goes. Anybody willing to talk me through it or have pictures of where everything goes?? :?:

First off tell us how much the other guy left behind. Is it wired all of the way to the front? Did you take a meter or a test light and see if the wires and lite switch still have power? Check the fuse and holder for power. Do you just need to repair something simple or rewire the tractor? Get back to us.Jeffcat

Lots of pictures of Farmall 340s on google images. They go on either side of the gas tank, mounted to the hood sheet metal. The holes should already be there.

As to the wiring, there should be a power and a ground. The ground should be easy as you trace the wire back to a bolt on the tractor's frame.

I found the ground wires. They have been cut from wherever they connected to the lights, but they are still connected (grounded) to the steering column. I am not sure where the other end connects to the lights. I do have a wiring diagram, but I suspect in the 50 plus years of the tractors life, some wiring got changed (and to different colors).

I can also find two red and black wire that look they have been cut. I have not traced them back to whatever they are connected to. Per the wiring diagram, if they are the head light wires they should connect to the junction box [whatever that looks like...and wherever that is].

Then I found two blue wires (and at this point the color may be not be relevant] that still have the connectors on the ends (not cut) but taped over. One comes out of the main wiring harness on the way to the starter. I need to look again to trace the other one back to where it is connected.

Now there may be a wire that should go back to the rear lamp and break-away connector.

There is no fuse in the holder. I think it is a 20 amp fuse.

I will look and see if I can find pictures on Google pictures of the wiring of the Farmall 340. Hard enough to see how things go even looking under the actual dash; pictures on the Internet (and written directions) are probably not any easier. Thanks much for attempting to help this technologically confused tractor owner.
