So while I am trying to find an I-T manual for this tractor what is it going to take to get to the ring/pinion gear area on it?? Looks like I will have to pull the top plate off which also looks like 500lbs or heavy metal and shift stuff to deal with. Is this correct or does it maybe come out the bottom??
THANKS

The top cover is the least of your "heavy" worries, as you have to support the tractor and remote both final drives and the bull pinion "cages" before even THINKING the differential is gonna lift up and out.

You will need to splitt the differential housing from the TA housing and then remove the wheels, axles, and PTO assembly. The top cover then has to be removed to get the bull gears out before the differential carrier can be removed. The pinion shaft comes out the front of the transmission. You will need to support the housing while the repair is being done. Here are a few pictures of a rear housing stand that will make this job much safer. The first picture is a stand under a 656 and the next two are of a 450 housing being disassembled.

Wewll you are going to have to start off with a split of the tractor and the removal of everything down to a bare rear end case . Then your going to have to do a complete rear end set up of the ring and pinion . If you have never done one your in for a real treat. As installing a ring and pinion is NOT JUST A STUFF AND GO , ya have to set the depth of the pinion to it's correct settings , then ya have to set your back lash , When taking the rear end apart keep all parts from one side on the same side of the tractor as it makes it easier when going back together . Also the pinion must have the correct bearing preload on it . You will need a depth mic. fleer gauges and a dial indicator and the pinion depth setting gauge block and pinion pin for the small case tractors.
