Trying to start a SMDTA that sat for years . Bleed the filters and runs great on gas . I loosened the fuel lines at the injectors and 1 gets very little , 2 & 3 stay dry , 4 seams to get the most but I don't think enough . Am I looking at replacing the pump ?
I don't have a gauge on it yet but if I loosen the plug where the gauge goes fuel runs out

The rack in the pump may be stuck. It can be freed up with modest application of carb cleaner TINY AMOUNTS. It can be done on the tractor. Jim

hi larry, your problem could also be a stuck injection plunger. i had the same problem with a 450 diesel.i took the plunger out and freed it up with penetrating oil and put a new filter element in it. put it back together and it ran fine. should have a parts book to help you with this and remember to keep everything as clean as possible.those old pumps are not as hard to work on as one would think.hope this helps.

Did you replace filters, check for good flow from tank? Clean screen at primary pump? Sounds like debris in system or weak primary pump. If rack and plunger was stuck it would either be hard fuel at all injectors (like mine was) or no fuel at injectors if stuck closed. Open the check valve on injection pump t screw on left side where it mounts to engine and see if diesel fuel runs out. If so it probably needs a primary pump rebuilt. If not I would recheck for debri in fuel system. Most likely screen is plugged if you haven't cleaned it yet. Good luck.

jim you could be right about a weak primary pump.and parts for those are hard to find.john at
midland diesel in fargo n.d.came up with a solution for the impossible to find seal for the
primary pump.he had bushings made to fit in the housing and also sells a seal to fix the problem
of fuel leaking into the main pump.phone number for midland diesel,701-237-6937

If the screen on the inlet of the primary is gummed up that may be causing the weak pressures? I have had good luck with putting a can of sea foam in the injection pump run it for a little while on gas with throttle slightly open on diesel, shut down let sit for little while then run again for few minutes then drain pump and refill with fresh 30wt oil. Freed up a stuck rack on my Bosch pump on early md. I did the seals on my one md pump,I redid the packing but didn't use the right type didn't leak for about 6 months, know which type of packing to use next time.
