the best way to do it is remove the cam and use a press and press the cam out of the gear. check all other gears also. by the time u fiddle with a puller and heat is wasted time, and probable wont work. just remove pushrods and cam followers and cam will pull out. and this is a good time to check the cam brgs. also.
 
Where did you or your machine shop find oversize pistons for this animal? When I overhauled mine about 5 years ago I could not find them anywhere.
 
Question, did you have the camshaft out when they rebored it? If not, I would absolutely pull it now just to clean it up. Even if you did have it out, I would pull it again. Not worth the hassle of pulling the gear and reinstalling with cam in block.
