has anyone rebuilt a D310 recently? We are having a hell of a time with this one. Had to get new rod bolts and they have changed the style a little and cant get the things to go in now. also when putting in the rear main ive herd those ones can be a real sob and very finicky anyone have any tricks?

thanks Zach

I have the factory tool for installing the rear main seal on the German diesels. Basically it just holds the seal as you pound it in with a hammer and controls how far you drive the seal with wear ring in. Pretty basic, you should be able to borrow/rent one from an fiat dealer. As for the rod bolts they should go in with a resistance fit but its been a few years since I've bought new ones so who knows who Fiat has making the bolts for them?

About the only thing unique about the rear main seal installer for that engine is it came with two large washers so the seal could be installed in three different locations. Use of the tool insures that the seal is installed squarely in the retainer.
