Farmall H water pump.

ok I picked up a 47 farmall H got it running but first problem was found hole in radiator needs a new one and second the water pump is making a grinding noise yes its the water pump. can it be rebuilt? what goes bad? I am not sure what is really making the noise I just know it is coming from the pump/fan it a little grinding ticking noise. has anyone had this happen and whats the best thing to do? my dad has had 2 farmall H's since the 50's never had to mess with the pumps what goes bad in it?

so I need
1) radiator
2) fan assembly
3) starter button cast housing
4)2 front rims and tires (well just tires)

1 & 2 are a must if you Michigan guys got parts let me know.

There are replaceable bearings in the pump so yes, depending what else may be damaged it could be repairable. Or you could pick up a salvage pump and rebuild that. New packing is easily obtained and installed. Or I can get you a new pump but they are not cheap.

Chad,If you already don't know, theres a small drive pin that holds the pump together, its usally hard to see because of dirt and grease.I think its sticking out just a little where the v belt pulley is

jimmy

could you explain to me better where that pin is so I can find it when I get home? are you saying it is coming out of the pump housing and hitting the back side of the v-belt pulley?

Ok found the problem on the fan that was causing the noise. Took the belt off the fan and started spinning it narrowed it down to the spring things on the front of the fan assembly closet to the radiator. I taped both sides up so it could ed move and spun the fan and the noise went away. Took tape off and spun the fan and those things rattle they look pretty worn out. Are the spring wore or the guide pins bad? What exactly are these spring loaded things for? Can I fix it?

new pins are available. I keep them in stock. The springs keep a slight tension on the impeller shaft so it does not leak coolant. But why they would make a noise I don't understand.

I think the pins and keeper and springs are just worn out and chattering I took the belt off and spun it by hand and that is what is making the noise. those are not my parts but just a picture of what is making the noise.
