Farmall A radiator

Looking for a Radiator for my dads 1940 A it gets over heated cutting grass unlike mine doing the same job. we pulled the grill the radiator was plugged solid grease grass and dirt blew it out found some leaks. What all fits it for replacements? does a super A and farmall C radiator fit it? found a few from a C for $50 yes or no?
Thanks

A and B will fit don't think others will but if the
radiators are good you could change the grill too
and be ok just look odd. I don't know if you are
restoring or just trying to get by . I hate to see
old tractors parked .

I think the c radiator is taller , if this were mine I would take what I had to the radiator shop and have it recorded or repaired as needed, this won't be $50.

The A/B and C radiators are the same height. But the C radiator uses a pressure cap, so isn't really the same. The Super C radiator is taller and won't readily interchange.

You say a 1940 so does the hood fasten with j-hooks or does it fasten with the 1/4 turn screws as the radiators are different. Your block is also probably plugged at the bottom of the sleeve area. There are hles in the cast block at te bottom where the sleeve seats. Now that you have the radiator off remove the lower housing and clean that area as its not uncommon for those holes to be plugged. You can find good used radiators for around 100 but first determine which sheet metal is on your tractor.

Chad, work with what you have, even if it needs to be record. It cost to hunt for parts and than you probally get something you cant use or worst than yours

Good catch Gene. I didn't think about the early style radiator in my first response. If Chad's tractor uses the Dzus fasteners, a new radiator probably isn't available.

Yes ive read too many have bought newrads and then found out they needed the early one. Now you could take off the side plates and then fasten them to a new one it would be a project but possible

Thanks guys I totally forgot about the early style hood latches it makes it very hard to find a radiator. We will take it the original one we had in to have it looked at and check to see if we can see the bottom ports in the block are getting plugged. Are they hard to get at?
