Looking for sending unit fitting on M?

I just finished doing the head on my 49 M with the distillate head. I need the fitting that screws into the backside of the head that the singing unit bulb screws into. The fitting was tough to get out and is now out of round. the fitting from the hardware store didn't work. Needs a special female end on it. I'll have to check with IH tomorrowunlessanyone elsehasanideaofwhere to get one.

I'm thinking it is a ordinary gas fitting bushing. MIght be totally wrong, won't be the first time, but I think a good lumber yard or good plumbing supply might have it.

For temp. sending unit? They are usually male pipe thread and a straight female thread for the bulb and nut to go into. A decent auto parts store should have one. Now, try finding a 'decent' auto parts store.

Something like AutoMeter part number 2263 or 2264. Google coolant temperature sending unit adapter.

Those are very hard to find take your guage with you when buying a new one as the threads on the sending unit are the ones you need to match. The threads going into the block are easy.

I found one that had the right threads for the sending unit, but the bulb end of the sending unit has a washer on it that's almost the same size as the threads on the sending unit. I'll stop at the IH dealer tomorrow, they have a couple of guys that don't even have to look up the parts numbers for the Farmall. Hopefully they'll have one. We have a pretty good NAPA and I'll try them also.

There you go if you have some good i-h parts men as those fittings are a bear to find as ive had calls for them. I never throw themaway when parting out. I use 6pt sockets and something to soak up some rust.

It is a special part. It has to come from Case-IH. Hardware stores or plumbing supply shops will not have it. I got one for my 1940 H just a couple of years ago, from my local Case-IH dealer.

The local IH dealer didn't have the fitting in stock.they could order it, but it was $30. Decided to just buy a different gauge.

A new gauge does not come with the fitting that screws into the head.
