1086 rear crank seal

If the rear main seal is leaking on a 1086, will oil show up in the bell housing, or on the back of the oil pan? I have the tractor split and see no engine oil in the clutch area, but have oil on the oil pan. Can I install the rear seal without the $200.00 tool I have read about? Thanks.

If you have oil on the oilpan, mostly likely the sealing ring on the
back of the cam is leaking. Pull the rear engine plate and reveal.
Gasket and rubber ring. We always use the tool. Try not to tear
the pan gasket when taking off the rear plate.

you can install seal with out tool then you can split tractor and reinstall seal with the tool be sure and not separate the wear ring from the seal. most dealer have a tool and will loan you the tool.
