I don't understand this saddle switch.

I guess I am dumber than a rock. I had this starter switch on my starter for a Farmall B. A guy who knows all about these tractors said I had it wired wrong.

The switch is mounted to the starter. The big wire goes to the top of the switch. When switch is depressed contact is made to the starter electrical post sticking out of the starter under the switch.

Am I missing something?

The guy "who knows all about these tractors" really doesn't know very much about them. Yours is wired correctly.

If the starter works, all is well. If it does not, take the switch off and jump directly to the contact with the battery cable. (be sure it is out of gear!!!! If it spins now, the switch may need to be moved toward the contact by using a small chain saw file to slot the screw holes to allow contact. Usually one half screw diameter will do. The amp meter is connected to the big terminal on the switch as well as the Bat cable. Jim

The only thing you are missing is that the contact inside the switch makes contact with one on top of the starter and the bolt the cable attaches to on top.
