I have a love for the F series Farmall tractors,And I read this fourmn daily. After years of being on here I sometimes skip over a lot of the post pretaining to the letter and number series tractors. But Im relizing theres not as many people working on these tractors.I hope these tractors aren't lost in history.Ive also noticed that used parts are a lot higher in price now than when I started. The F series tractors were some of the fore runners of our modern day tractors.I guess what Im trying to say is all you collectors that doesn't have one in your collection, please restore one and keep history alive

I've also noticed there are no where as many posts about F series tractors as for other tractors. I can understand that as those old F series tractors certainly aren't as easy to operate as the letter series. I'd love to add a F-20 and F-30 to my collection but I don't get places very often where there is a chance of getting one. I do have a F14 and was lucky to get one with a hydraulic lift and plow to go with it. I've got a mowing machine and cultivators for it also but both are manual lift. I occasionally cultivate corn with it and every year use it to rake hay. I like it for raking hay but it has a slow ground speed compared to my letter series tractors.

I happen to love the old F series myself Jim. I have F-12,F-14,F-20,F-30 not done yet, Farmall narrow tread, and a 22-36, next purchase will be Industrial 20 with a grader on it.

I agree. All collectors should have atleast one in the collection. They have alot of characteristics that the letter series did not have (because if improvement) and were never seen again. I have an F-20 and am glad I do. If I was to demonstrate only one of my tractors to someone and give a little talk about it, I would walk them right by all of my letter series tractors and find my way to the F-20. Going to the field though, well lets just say the F-20 might pull a wagon from time to time but that is it. Ground speed a little to slow for about everything that I do. Its gets to see most of the joy riding though.

I have an F-20 and will never part with it. There's basically two reasons (outside of the using factor) why you don't see the older tractors talked about as much...

Number one reason is that if a guy is going to buy an old tractor to restore, he's most likely going to get one that he has memories of running when he was young, or that his dad had, etc...as time goes on there will be less and less of the guys around who have first hand memories of these older tractors being used.

Second reason is availability. Luckily there's still no shortage of F-series tractors yet, but it's gonna go downhill eventually. There's still an F-20 in every fifth fence row you happen to drive by now....compare that to the last time you saw a Titan or Mogul or Rumley or any large steam-age tractor(of course WWII iron drives took a large number of them).

There will likely come a day when an F-series will be viewed as a curiosity like the steam-age ones are now, and people will think the letter series are really old, and the average "old IH tractor restorer" will be doing the 06-56-66-86 series tractors.

I have an F-12 but they are too slow for tractor rides, you would get left behind. I don't know how fast they would go with overdrive units. My Super-C is much more comfortable, so it gets used a lot more. I have had the F-12 since 1991 and have no intention of ever getting rid of it.

If I had more money for parts the F20 in the shed would be put back in service. They sure are neat and simple tractors.

There are far more people out there collecting pre 39's than you might think. there are close to a dozen collectors in this sate that have large pre 39 only collections

My buddys are really into the pre 39 tractors. They currently have running 15-30,22-36,10-20,regular,f20,2 f12's,f14,f30 being restored,w30 waiting restoration. Neat tractors.jim.

I know what you mean. Everyone I know from school who has antique tractors and even most adults all go after the letter series (or equivalent JD, Case, etc) because they are electric start. I always get the look for being the one teen with the hand crank tractor, which actually starts quite easily.

I just restored my F-14 last year for my FFA project and am currently doing my Regular for my FFA Project this year. They are really nice tractors and I just love working on them. So much simpler and to work on and fix that the later tractors, and its always nice to have such a neat piece of history. Once it is gone, it won't ever be coming back.

The first antique tractors I got were a 37 F-14, 36 F-20, 30 Regular and a 26 Regular. I still have the F-14 and the 1930 Regular. I keep kicking myself for selling that 26 Regular, just had too many projects on my hands between the F-14 and 1930 Regular, but I have been looking for older style Regular ever since.

As far as being slow, the overdrive makes my F-14 as fast (possibly faster?) than my Farmall H.

Have this one in the shop, just need to get it running. Think it come from the factory painted black. Put a lot of hours on the one dad had when I was 14 years old.

I really enjoy the F series myself and I love the looks of them. My F12 will hopefully be complete in another month or so after the weather warms up. I didn't get to work on it at all after having hand surgery back in November. I also have a '29 Regular sitting in the shed right now that needs a ton of work, along with whats left of a '28.

I'd like to have a Regular or 20 in running condition, not fixed up or anything. Something just to tinker with and help me get to know them a bit better.

I have an M and Cub as well, but have no desire for anything newer than that unless it would be a 400 or 450.

I've got 3 F-14's and 2 F-12's all fully restored. Cultivators on two them, #90 plow on one and a sickle mower on one and one with electric start and wide front end. I don't have room for any more but wish I did. I grew up on an F-12 so that is the reason for my liking the F series. I know they are slow but I agree with your thinking on the historical end.

I started my IHC collection almost 10 years ago with a Farmall M and an H. Then I bought an F20 and a Regular and my pre 1939 collection started growing from there. I think there is a simple elegance in those old tractors. Here is a list of the pre '39 tractors I now have

1925 15-30
1926 10-20 running
1927 10-20
1928 10-20
1929 Regular running
1929 22-36 running
1931 Regular
1935 F20
1935 F30
1935 W30
1935 F12
1935 TD40
1935 P12 power unit
1936 F30
1936 WA40
1937 F30
1938 W30 running

Well, as a 32 year old tractor lover, I guess I'm guilty as charged. Growing up on our family farm and helping others, all we ever used (from an old Farmall perspective) was a Super C, H, and M. I never knew there WAS a F series! (hide). Fast forward to this winter and I stumbled upon a F20 and F14 for sale. I started researching and determined that the F14 was going to be my first antique tractor purchase. Don't have it running yet, but I am really glad I learned about these and now own one. Everyone I talk with in the family knows all about the letter series, but my great uncle's ears really perk up when the F series tractors come up in conversation. So, you have another person here just trying to keep some of the old history alive!
