Any tips for replacing PTO seal?

Roger, I have put two seals in almost all of them. We had one tractor that had the shaft wore where old seal ran and placed new seal in different location on shaft.

I've had no trouble running with one seal. They used more than one originally because they were leather and simply didn't work as good.

Keep in mind that the seal needs a tiny bit of oil for lubrication. If you run two modern seals and the inner most is doing its job then the outer one is going to be running dry.

Ditto on the double seal. If there is room, I always double up. I grease both seal lips and lightly pack grease between the seals to keep the out side one lubed.

I only put one in mine and it was fine, I put it in between where the original two had been so it was riding on a good surface. It's a quick easy job on an H. One thing I learned on here years ago which worked really well was to wrap a sheet of notebook paper around the PTO splines before I slid the new seal over them. Once the seal is past the splines it should be safe. Sometimes the splines have sharp edges that can nick your new seal and make it leak.

I would double it. I only put single one in and it leaked, am planning to add second seal now.

All good advice. I was told by the dealer's counter parts man as I remember to intall these seals so the U-shape gets filled up with the transmission oil. As I remember.
