1086 oil pressure

here is a couple pics of my 1086 oil pressure after running for about 20 mins on a 30 degree day
the higgher pressure is around 1300 rpms and the lower pressure is around 800

is the pressure low enough that i should be worried about it

verify the actual pressure with a accurate mechanical gauge. a long time ago i replaced a alternator based on a dash mounted volt meter, it was a costly lesson !!

i wouldn't worry about anything based on the actual reading of that gauge, only if it suddenly changes from what it usually does. i'll second the mechanical gauge.

I always like to see oil pressure 3/4 of the way across the
gauge, but I figure they put the middle there for a reason. It is
getting worn but I wouldn't hit the panic button yet. Make sure
you don't have any diesel dilution in your oil. I've never thought
that the 04 dually with the Duramax in it had good oil pressure,
but it is half way across the gauge. Half way is 30 pounds, but
it is half way.

That volt meter would stress me out. Whether or not it is
accurate, I would spend all day staring at it. I'm not sure why,
but I look at volt/amp gauges more than anything else. I think
because they can change in an instant. Oil pressure is less
likely to do that.

I think I have a oil pressure gauge and voltage gauge from that series of tractors laying in every cubby hole I have. Replaced a lot of them over the years. I had made kind of a chart as to where they should show compared to a mechanical gauge just for reference. After the merger with Case, the parts dept would order in the whole box with gauges, remove the gauges for stocking and pretty much give me the box to use if needed. It cost much less than ordering gauges individually. The only gauges I saw that were worse than these were the ones John Deere used.

That volt gauge does worry me sometime
it has 2 new batteries and a new alternator on it and the gauge acts funny sometime
the batteries seem to be staying charged up but I do plan on looking at the charging system a lil closer this spring
I think I will put a mechanical gauge on the oil pressure and see what it is holding
can i just screw one right into the block and get some readings
I wouldnt want to use a mechanical one all the time
Thanks guys for all your input

I wouldnt worry about the pressure. I have scene them just off the bottom for years on those guages. Those guages are not very accurate. As long as nothing changes with oil consumption or noise I wouldnt worry.

The electric gauge is not trustworthy by any means. On my 1086 I put a manual gauge in front of the bottom of the lower right front cab window and plumbed it with a braided hose coming out of a port in the right rear side of the engine block. The electric gauge will sometimes flicker and go to zero. Scared the bejeepers out of me the first time it pulled that trick. Mine runs about 65 psi hot wide open. 50 idled hot.

The voltmeter is lazy, always has been.

I put a mechanical oil gauge on today and ran the tractor about 45 mins
wide open it holds about 65 psi and at idel it is about 30 psi
I am ok with that
I was using it this past Friday and the electric gauge went to 0 scared me bad
I am glad it was just that gauge
Thanks to everyone for the advice

I never trust any of the gauges on an 86 series tractor. You always need to check with an independent meter first before replacing any components.
