have a 49 Cub the tramsmisson leaks the seal on the right leaks even when it is parked is there a way to fix that without taking the final drive off on that side thanks for any help Paul

yes, well maybe. open the inspection plug, run a stick or something into the hole (only need to do this, if goop is too stiff to run out) and determine if tranny is too full. if too full crack open drain plug and let water out. then fill to the check plug level. this may help or may not

The "full" check plug is a TINY pipe plug on the left side of the transmission (led side is looking from the rear to the front). The plug is down there by the brake rod and fender. Pull it and let it run out until I stops there. That's the full mark.

Your transmission is overfull. Either thru overfilling or thru condensation and/or leakage down the gearshift lever. When the transmission is at the proper level it is below the seal. That seal doesn't act as a dam but to keep splashing gear oil from leaking.

The proper amount of gear oil is only 3 1/2 [u:6c1a362c45]PINTS[/u:6c1a362c45]. Drain it and refill with about 3 pints of kerosene or diesel. Drive it around about 10 minutes and drain. Refill with 3 1/2 pints of your favorite gear oil.

even if the seals are bad, its not that bad a job, bt get help, the final drive is heavy, and fully suport the tractor so it wont tip when you pull the final drive off

I removed small plug almost 2 quarts came out removed drain plug and got about a quart and half no water all good oil think I will just put in mew 90 weight and try it thanks for the help
