Farmall h hood problem

Hi everybody I just made an account here. every time I need help with one of my tractors I always come here first to read up on your guys' opinions. Having said that I thought I should finally get my own account.
So here's my problem. I'm restoring my grandpas 52 Farmall H. I've torn it all down blasted, primed, and painted it. I started putting everything back on and I got as far as the hood and when I put it on I noticed I've got almost over 3/4 of an inch of gap between it and the grill. It didn't fit perfect before but it definitely fit better than it does now (which it really doesn't fit at all)
Is there any way I can get the grill to come back to have it fit right again or does the radiator need moved back or what's my problem???

If you had either the radiator or gas tank off,
(or both) each may be off of the original
positions by just a little. (Remember, the back
of the hood rests on the front of the gas tank.)
If each one is off 3/8 of an inch in opposite
directions, you could have that 3/4 inch total
easily. Also check the brace rod that goes across
the top of the head from the gauge bracket to the
radiator support and make sure the radiator is as
vertical as it should be. My bet would be the
radiator is out of position, if you had it off.

you need to adjust the rod that holds the rad at the top.

I've noticed a lot of H's have a small "ding" in the vertical steering post, where the gas tank fits up. Like it was meant to sit further back, but couldn't until it got 'fixed' with a hammer.
I've also noticed a lot of H's have that gap where the hood meets the grill, and I've noticed the exhaust pipe many times is centered exactly in the hole in the hood.
I don't think the H ever did fit together perfectly exactly right.

Whenever the radiator is removed and installed I like to mount them and grill, leave the hose clamps and bottom mounts loose. Measure the hood both sides, then move the radiator as to get close to the hood measurements from where hood rests on tank to grill. If its good on measurements at top and bottom check for steering shaft and shroud clearance and if good adjust the top support to the correct distance. Sometimes things don't work out and you compromise. Or do some modifications. No adjustment on the fuel tanks unless other work is done. If hood gap is closer near bottom or top of tank end needed can be spaced up a little.

Also double check that the hood is not rubbing against the air breather pipe. Many Hs and Ms have a "Cut" in the air breather pipe from the hood rubbing against it.

All good advice here; I got a china radiator that the holes were different on from the original, that was fun.

I hope the pictures I'm trying to post come up.

That's how much gap I've got and I tried loosening the rad. Bolts and I still can't get it I took off the support bar. My grill needs to come back more but it can't because it hits the pedestal
I just can't figure it out. I know it's stupid simple.

Thin your paint out more, Give it 2 o3 3 good coats.
Start at one end & go to the other end in 1 stroke.
lap & go again.
This will give you a smooth finish, I do body work.
