1939 Farmall H


Early Hs used a non-pressurized radiator. The radiator cap is different, it is a round cap, is stamped "water" and will interchange the fuel tank cap. Also, the radiator over-flow tube is in a different location, which requires a "notch" in the grill for the tube to fit. Also, the early Hs used a "dzus" fastener to attach the grill to the radiator.

Yes, the over-all dimensions are the same. When IH came out with new, pressurized style, the old style was made obsolete. If you needed a new radiator for an early tractor, the later radiator was what you got.
 
Wasnt the overflow on them just like the Aand Bs were just a standpipe in the radiator. The notched grilles were for the pressure systems wasnt it.

Nope. I own a 1940 H with the non-pressurized radiator, and also a 1950 H with the late, pressurized radiator. Never been around an A or a B enough to know how they are set up.
 
My memory could be off, but I think Gene is correct the original early H and M radiators didn't have a external overflow pipe. Some early grills also didn't have the same rear lip the hood rests on or the overflow slot.

Overall dimensions match, but the pressure radiator had fewer tubes. The change was made in late 1942 to conserve materials for the war. The wartime radiators had steel fins.
