Found a 9637D cast iron shift knob

I recently bid on a rear wheel weight for $25, went to go pick it up and the parts dealer had 3 more. I picked up 4 in total for $25 each. I walked around the 2 Farmall H's he was parting out and saw a pto delete plate which I hadn't seen before, and also noticed one had a cast iron shift knob. It is stamped with 9637D but I can't make out an old IHC logo. I understand at some point during the war when rubber was in short supply they made cast iron instead. From a Google search, I have seen 1944's, 1945's, and 1946's with cast iron. I imagine not all came with them. It appears the knob is threaded onto the shift lever, I can't un-thread it by hand, I'll try some WD-40 and a wrench. I'm wondering if the rubber replacements are threaded or pressed on. If I did get the cast knob off, would I even be able to put it on my current shift lever?

I don't know how the cast iron knob is attached, but if you have the entire shift lever, why not just swap it out with what is on your tractor now?

I might just swap out the entire lever, I think only one pin holds in on. I need to find the measurements and see if this lever has any wear.
I think I would paint the knob black, but thinking they probably came from the factory red.

Don't take sand to the beach, I would paint the knob black, the rest red, and install it. Nice find! PS you better go back and give him so more money for the weights!

Seems like I remember that knob is threaded. Think at one time IH parts system listed it as a alternate that would work on a unthreaded lever if the lever was threaded.
Found in my note book some research done on M shifters. Best I could tell that knob and shifter could be on M factory tractors serial 60129 to 128006. Not the only shifter that could be used though. IH had a alternate shifter or two also.

Makes me think that folks are finally realizing that wheel weights are NOT made of gold.

I have a 1945 IH I-6 that has the cast iron shifter knob. I think it is threaded onto the shift lever. Never had it off.

There is a guy about 45 minutes away selling 2 weights for $75. I was going to drive to his place that same day until I found the 4 for $25 each.

There are two guys within 15 minutes with 2 weights they are advertising for $150.

And those guys wanting to sell 2 weights for $150 have probably been tripping over them for several years now.
