What's the handle made from?

One handle has been broken and welded before, but the other handle broke now.
 
If it is light weight it is probably cast aluminum. If heavy like steel it may be malleable iron or cast steel. A good pic would help. If you can remove any paint in a good size area you should be able to tell if it is aluminum or steel. I'm not familiar with that particular item but that is my guess from what I have seen similar item made from.
 
They for sure are not iron or steel. If one was
already welded they must be an aluminium alloy.
There are some special rods available that can be
used with a gas torch to braze zinc diecastings but
results vary greatly.

I think I'd check a couple salvage yards for
replacement levers.
