Do the reverse and first gear in a h, 300,340,350 swap out ?
My dad is fixing a 340 for a friend n low gr has teeth off n we
got a couple old chassis that we can pull gears from for it but
not gonna waste time if it isn't just a swap deal , any help is a
huge help n any knowledge of whst will or will not swap is
appreciated thanks

340 is based on a C tractor and thus is entirely different from the other 3, I would imagine. Some H and Super H transmission parts can be swapped but not others. I put the whole works of a Super H transmission in my H a few years ago and it was an improvement. 300 for sure and I assume also 350 have gears whose teeth are cut differently, I think they maybe are called helical cut but I am not sure. The H and Super H have straight cut gears. The 300 transmission shafts are also quite different from the H and SH.

If the 340 is equipped with what IH called a high speed first and reverse with a 55 tooth sliding gear the 300, 330 and 350 first gears work.
If the 340 has the standard first the 300 and 350 gears won't work. Unless you change the top and bottom gear and the reverse idler from a 300, 330 or 350. Will make the ground speed a little faster in first and reverse.
Some 504 have the low first speed that works. Can't think of another. 460 utility has one slower than a 350 but don't remember if its the same tooth count as the 340 standard first. Thinking they were just a little higher ratio.

Actually, the 340 has the same rear end as the 460. It has TA and live PTO.

It is an H-sized rear end but I'm not sure how much if any is common with the H lineage.

Only the front half of the tractor is based on the Super C.

(quoted from post at 14:41:49 02/17/15) If a 340 is basically a 460 rear end , can a 300 bell b bolted to it ?
I don't know why not. The rear housing of the 340 and 460 are the same part number. If they won't mix, it would be due to some incompatible difference with the internal parts.

You want the 340 tractor fixed, correct? Don't know if you are asking if a 300 transmission housing will bolt to a 340 center housing, or if a 300 center housing will bolt to a 340 engine?
To much unknown, engine driven hydraulics on the 340 or transmission driven? 300 rear housing won't be hydraulic oil pickup compatible.
If going to have the center housing out of the 340 you may as well fix it. Not that much trouble to put the 300, 330, 350, 460 or 504 gears in if you want to use something on hand. They are splined and not that hard to get off the shafts after shaft removal. Just use the first gear on the top and bottom shaft that match and the reverse idler shaft that matches the first gear. If I remember correct 2nd speed that drives one end of the reverse idler is the same on all those tractors. Another thing to consider is the farmall 340 has more gear reduction through the ring and pinion gears than a farmall 300, 330, 350 or 460. Plus the 300 transmission may have a faster first gear also than the 340 has now.

Correction my memory was off on the I-460. Checked and the I-460 unless a high utility, 504 and 340 all use the same 59 tooth sliding first gear and a 20 tooth gear driving the 59. Unless equipped with high speed first and reverse, then they used the same first gears used in a 300, 330, 350 or F-460.
Ring gear and pinion counts. F-340-49&14, I-340-49&16, F-460-49&15, I-460-50&18, F-504-50&13, I-504-49&16. High clearance internationals have the same R&P ratio as the farmall models most times.
Farmall models of 300 and 350 use the same ratio gears as a F-460 along with the first gear speeds.

This all great info , we just took a gr out of a 300 n when it's
warmer we will try it n the 340 thanks , u guys know ur crap lol
