I have found a large piece of cast iron. It is 23.75" in diameter and about 1/2" thick. The lettering says McCormick Chicago USA. I'm trying to figure out what it was used on. Any help would be greatly appreciated! I have tried to upload a couple of pictures, but, it hasn't worked yet. Thank You!

I never farmed with horse's either, but that sounds like a piece from those old header's. Not sure of this but i always thought that was a counter balance weight. When Old comes on he will know !!!

It looks like the steering platform, part number J37 (check the casting for the part number), used on McCormick Push-headers and push-binders from 1900 to 1912

I think I can support your position Athol. My parts book does not go back past 1911 for the steering platform of the header but the 2011-22 platform is a rectangular shape. Seeing as how my book does not back to the era of yours we can go with your findings.

After reading the posts, there is a number "37" cast on the back of the piece, but, there is not a "J" in front of it.
