live hdys on farmall h

bought a live m&w pump for my H. Pump was to big and did not fit. :? Is there a way to put a front pump on it like they do on the fords? What is the easiest way to put live hyds. on a H? What pump should i use?

Thanks Howard

The distributor mounted pump is the best. There are
other 'farmer'/redneck options.Sounds like you got
an M pump.Exactly what doesnt fit?
pump,gears,mounts?

You probably bought an M&W pump for an M.

No, there is no (easy) way to bolt a crankshaft pump on like an 8N. Take a look at the front. The crank comes out of the front bolster at an angle to miss the vertical steering shaft.

In order to make it work you would have to tear the front end of the tractor off, and custom machine the crankshaft pulley to accept a universal joint to match the angle of the crank hole in the front bolster. You would have to machine the front bolster to mount the pump. Lots of work, lots of expense, more than the tractor is worth. Plus the universal joint would fail quickly due to the hammering from the engine.

The cleanest install would be to find the right M&W pump.
Next would be an IH live pump, but unless your tractor is newer than mid-1950, you will need a different front engine cover and timing gears. This is an expensive option as the pumps run ~$900 alone.
Another option would be to belt drive a salvaged power steering pump off the crankshaft pulley.

I installed a belt driven, Vickers vane pump on my M. Built all the brackets from scratch. It works, and I'm happy, but it was not easy. Most difficult part was sliding the entire front bolster ahead far enough to allow the accessory crankshaft pulley to slip in.

Depending on what your wanting to do you can use a power steering pump off of something like an old Chev truck and have around 1500PSI live hyds. I did that on a B I had years ago for the sickle bar mower I built to fit it

Use a live pump and front plate from a 300 it will bolt up. The next items you nwill need is the hyd lines. Find a 300 parts tractor and you are all set. I did it on my 46 h works perfectly. Al71

Do what Ai71 says, a mid 1950 and later already has the correct plate on it. I did it and works great.

My neighbor used parts off a 300 and works
perfectly. He even got a 3 valve hydrolic
valve bank on it. Cadillac.
