504 3pt question

Hey all. Quick question for you, more of a confirmation really. I had a smaller blade on my 3pt on my farmall and had a hell of a time getting it to go down. Only the last half of the lever would actually start picking it up too. wondering if there's something off with my 3pt lift hydraulics.

Also, the steering was stiff as all hell, but after running a half hour she was easy and smooth. i'm guessing the hydaulic fluid was like peanut butter from the cold?

I would love some insights here, as you can see from the pic, this is how i'm clearing my drive and that means getting to work, so i can have money, to keep making this old 504 nicer :D

All I can say is, maybe. The problem is, it's not quick or easy to get into the 3pt lift mechanism under the seat. If you get the I&T manual or look at the parts catalog online, you can see how complicated the mechanism is.

If it goes up and down and you can plow your driveway, I would recommend you just live with it until warmer weather when you can have the tractor out of service for a few days/weeks.

If/when you tear into the three point mechanism
under the seat, I HIGHLY recommend you buy an IH
blue ribbon service manual. They printed one
specifically for the 3pt/draft control for various
tractors. I bought one for my 606 because I had to
replace the draft control lever and operating shaft.
