I have a farmall A i use with a woods belly mower to mow my lawn. Well in the dead of winter my tractor fever is burning hot so i had to find something to tinker with. I always thought my A idled high. On the rod from the governor arm to the carburator was a spring following the linkage rod. Looking at parts diagrams online im not seeing the spring in any pictures, so i removed it. Tractor idles a lot lower now but i dont seem to get the top end rpm out of it anymore. Also when i rev her up she surges a little now. So questions are, is that spring supposed to be there? Was this a band aid the previous owner added to get more rpm out of it and stop surging? Where is the governor spring on the a? Is it internal? What adjustment or parts should i be looking at to get this tractor running like originally intended?
