just watch the movie Fury fine movie about a tank crew was just thinking, it was these old Farmalls that we work on today that helped produces the k-rats that these tankers ate. maybe if it wasent for the old farmalls and tankers we all might be be speeking German

my deepest respect for the 1940's generation that gave us the M4 sherman tank and the farmall tractors and the men and women the kept them running both on the home front and in combat[/i]

I just happened to watch it too last night. Made me want to see what the inside of a tank was really like. But also made me very thankful and grateful for the fellows that called it "home" during the war. I can't imagine.

i was in tanks fot 20 years. started out in an M60A3 then went to an M1A1

cramp and not a good place to sleep cold in the winter and hot in the summer. one day its was 135 deg in side the tank. our CSM made my company pull into shade and training started up again after dark this was at ft hood, tx

rather ride a tank then be a ground pounder

Happened to watch (again) Sahara with Humphrey Bogart on TV about a week ago. That is a classic as far as I'm concerned. They had an M3, the forerunner to the M4.
Hope to see Fury some day... looks like one I would enjoy.

I watched it last night and was all that impressed with it. To much cussing and pretty much just not a real good made movie

The Tank was a Sherman. Poor things where gas hogs and a rolling bomb. One direct hit with a German tiger tank it it was done for in the Sherman

Three years in Army and only tank I ever saw was in the ordnance building where we went to engine rebuild school. Some huge engines is about all I remember. Speaking of engine rebuild school, which is what I signed up for before enlistment. Found out after school was complete that only civilians did the rebuilding. Therefore my MOS was demoted so to say, to wheel vehicle repair. I actually did get to tear a lot of things apart though and got a lot of good experience on Uncle Sam's time. Most guys wanted the simple jobs, but I wanted to learn something.

the tank used in FURY is an M4A3e8 a late war and Korea model. and the Tiger used in the movie is a real tiger tank the only in the left in the world still running and the german halftracks are sk kfz 2511 ausf D

not only was i on tanks im an armor historian too

and if you think the movie has a lot of cussing, its still that way today i know, been there, got shot at too.
