I'm still fretting over the power steering on my tractor. I have everything with the steering linkage tightened up. There is still a lot of slop in the steering wheel, and it turns harder than I think it should. Other than taking the steering gear apart what else should I check?

If the steering spindles have not been serviced, it will be hard to steer. They must be at least lifted from the ground and greased until grease is evident at the bottom thrust flange. If it will not grease properly, taking them/it apart is the only answer. Jim

Thanks Jim, I'll get the grease gun filled and see if that helps. What about the slop in the steering gear?

I would say that if the slop is more than 4 inches at the steering wheel rim, it needs attention. To locate it will require your diagnosis. If all the motion is contained in the steering wheel (nothing moves on the arms or shafts till the wheel slop has been moved through) the most likely place is the small groove follower on the sector that wears and allows slop. Rebuilding that "peglike" device can help. if the worm/groove is worn, it might be difficult to get it rebuilt to spec. NEW old stock is probably gone. Jim
