Gas 301 806 engine and bell housing patterns

First, I am about to have a spare 301 gas out of an 806. It was running pretty good when pulled but could use some freshing up. How difficult would it be to install this engine in a 560? I own two 560 tractors a gas and a diesel. Neither need an engine right now but thinking it would be an upgrade in power if one went down.Along the same line is there differences in bell housing patterns on 806/856 tractors? I thought the pattern was the same on both gas and diesel 806 and 856. I even thought it was the same pattern as used on the 560. Last week a guy told me that he thought gas and diesel and 806/856 were different patterns. I am certain some of you guys know and I could sure use your knowledge! Thanks in advance for your help, Lee

806 and 856 same pattern at the clutch housing. I am almost sure same pattern on the 560. Gas and diesel bolt pattern same also. The only thing you would have to change from a gas 263 560 motor to a 301 806 gas is the valve cover. The 806 used a taller cover just to fill in unused space so it would be as tall as the diesel engine. The covers will interchange.

Don't know for sure on the 806/856 but I think you just need the correct adapter plate on the rear. As for the 301 into the 560 I have done 5 of them and after each one I said I would never do it again. It's a 75% tear down of both engines & moving the 560 parts to the 301. A lot of work but little money & you end up with about 75 hp at the 560 rpm. And a big pile of left over parts.

Same block as the gasser 560 ya just need to swap a few pieces and parts and it is a done deal. The back engine plate and the timing cover. and the flywheel off the 560. And you will have to do some modes to the carb .

And. Front adapter plate for timing cover, oil filter housing, front balancer pulley, oil pan, oil pick up tube, dip stick & tube & a carb off a 715 combine which has the same specs as a 806 carb & would be cheaper than building the 560 carb to work well. Like I said before a lot of work.

560, 806, 856 have the same bell housing bolt pattern. Not the exact same shape but the bolt holes will line up.

I'd still swap front covers and back plates between the two engines before installing the 301 into a 560.

The 856 would be a direct bolt in, except the frame rails will end up being about an inch short. The diesel back plate is about 1" thicker than the gas, so the frame rails are shorter to make the sheet metal fit. Save the 806 gas frame rails if you ever think you might want to do this.

Same goes if you're putting a diesel in the 806 gas. The hood will be about 1" short of fitting unless you change out the frame rails.
