M new temp guage install

ok gentlemen: here is perhaps a dumb question, I ordered and received a new temp gauge for my M from this site. Got it today, and in looking at it, I wonder if it is complete unit. It is the gauge with the 19" lead and the sensor bulb on the end. Also came with a reducer to put in the block, but no way to retain the bulb in the reducer, should there not be a connector on the lead between the bulb and the gauge to hold the bulb in the adapter (reducer) fitting in the block? Or am I not comprehending the installation of it somehow?

From enlarging the picture on this site, of the IHC logo (older) gauge, it appears there is a retaining nut on the capillary tube and a fitting that it screws into.
The second gauge in the listing is the IH (newer) logo face, it indicates in the ad that there is an adapter missing that they cannot supply. Show us a photo, or compare it to the ad. I would call them tomorrow. Jim

thanks Jim, yes I got the one (older type) and on the pic here, it looks as if the retaining nut for the tube did not get put on when it was manufactured, I assumed there would have been a retaining nut on the tube, but none there. I was pretty sure I would get the answer you gave, but I have overlooked something obvious before. I will have to call and get return authorization tomorrow, and have them resend one with the fitting on the tube. Hope they weren't all made that way by mistake. Some new guy on assembly line.

If it is not complete why are they even trying to sell them? I have never seen one that you could take apart and put the nut on that is missing and put back together and it worked! That just doesn't make any sense at all.

The pictures of both gauges for sale here show the nut to hold the bulb in. The "adapter", part 51510D, is the reducing bushing with pipe threads on the outside that the nut screws into. If the tractor already had a temperature gauge, the adapter should already be in place and is normally reusable. From farmboy48's description, it sounds like the nut is missing. The nut cannot be added once the gauge is manufactured. It sounds like an error from the factory and the unit needs to be returned.

I just put one on one of my H's that appeared to be defective just like yours. I installed it and it worked fine. When I put it in the block fitting it appeared to be loose and I figured it wouldn't hold water. I had it out two or three times trying to figure out what was wrong with the sender. I finally installed and added water and there was no leaks. Give it a try and see if it will work.

I ordered one for my M from here. It looked all wiggly and like
it wasn't all there. I put it in and never had a drop of water leak
out. The capillary bulb gets squished between the hole in the
block and the end of the fitting. It works. Or at least mine did.

Hello again fellas, I started this post a couple weeks ago wondering about the new temp gauge I bought from YT for my M. After getting the gauge, I noticed there is no retainer on the cable to hold the bulb in the fitting that goes into the head. I called cust support, and they said they would send me a fitting that would hold it in to head. Wondered how I would get a fitting over the bulb end to hold it in, but they said it would work, got the fitting today, it is just a reducer that would screw into the head for the sensor to push into. Reduces from 1/2" male to 3/8" female. that is already in the head from old one.

How do I explain to them that I need the gauge replaced with one that has the retainer on the cable already installed behind the sensor bulb that will screw into the 1/2" to 3/8" reducer that is already in the head. The two guys I talked to have no comprehension how the bulb should be held in the head. Any ideas how I can make this more plain, or am I confusing you all too.

Sorry for rambling.

Should be no questions asked. Defective product. Your gauge isn't functional as it is for the application listed, and you paid for one that should fit and function.

Get a return authorization. Send the hunka-junk back. Put a note in the box explaining why it's a hunka-junk. Hope the next one was made right.
