350 Transmission

Putting my 350 back together. Redone the TA. My son and I can't get the bellhousing to go on to the rearend. Can get it on the spline for sure but can't get it close enough to start any of the bolts. We are far from experts, kind of learn as we go. What can we do to get it slid up further. Using a cherry picker and floor jack and what muscle we can. Everything looks clear among the gears but no go. Any advice appreceiated.

Use two dowels in transmission bolt holes. Make sure to get the transmission pilot bearing started into the shaft coming out of the T/A. I like to have the belt gear box or cover off for making sure the bearing is the correct level and rollers of bearing squeezed in to start. If not enough stuff removed to do that, put a rubber band around the rollers. Won't hurt to leave the rubber band inside. Put pto in gear and turn pto shaft to line up coupling splines unless it has a PTO disconnect. Option on a 350. If so you can move it to disconnect before joining. Get housings square and straight.

Our 350 was very tight when we put the T/A housing
and the rear end back together. D Slater is on the
right track.
